Hello everyone we just got back from Washington D.C.! We had a really nice trip. When We got there Friday night we went swimming at the hotel and crashed kinda early so we could get up early for the White House and museums the next morning. Other than cloths your basically can't bring anything else in. Altho I'm shocked they let us in with cloths on!!! lol
Security is tight (check points with metal detectors thank you Brittany for setting every one off with your belt!!!lol) Well anyway you have to walk for Blocks and blocks in the total opposite direction to store your purse, cameras, and phones, and everything else. So needless to say walking all the way back in the freezing cold 50 mile an hour winds wasn't happening!!!So no picture... sorry
We did walk right past the Capital Building which is what the first pic. is. The second picture is the 1st Smithsonian museum. It is now used for offices for the museum and other stuff, I don't know . But it was beautiful. I also took a "picture" (so I thought) of the Washington Monument, turns out I took a short video of it instead .Grrrr.... That won't post on the Blog! har har har ;). So no pic.....sorry
Well let me explain the White House for a moment!
Wayne,Kirah,Amber,me ,Brittany and about 4 other Gymnast families met out in front before you go thru all the Guards and stuff. We first went in (don't know which gate) but it was a hallway with big windows on the left and Photos of George Bush ,John F. Kennedy with his kids and wife in the White house. Some very precious moments. There was a photo of Princess Diana dancing in one and (from Murder she wrote) Angela lansberry(sp?) dining with her in another . Then as you walked some more there was a HUGE Paintings of CalvinCooliage and others presidents I can't remember. It took you to a head statue of Abe Lincoln and some other figures. After that there were Beautiful library's and tea rooms. We all were clustering in a group, gaping at everything while the children tried to rushed us along in their mission to just get thru this "boring place". The very elegant room with 3 gigantic chandeliers hung gracefully from the ceiling! WOW they were gorgeous! 4 huge fireplaces were in that room. The detail in the molding around the room, windows and doors was very intricate. We walked thru the Green room,Blue room, and the Red room. All were very beautiful and oozing with Historic facts and antiques.Everywere you turned there were Guards (to answer questions.....and stuff) ,in every room, hallway,or stairway. When we got to the Formal dining room (which had a large painting of George Washington in it), Amber and Kirah said "and this is the yellow room!! We got a chuckle out of it. Altho it did have alot of yellow in it ,it wasn't called that. So in closing of our self guided tour, There was a beautiful painting of John F. Kennedy With is arms kinda gently crossed and he was looking down, deep in thought or maybe praying. It was painted so well you could almost feel what he was feeling. Amazing!!!! The whole place was pretty cool.
So we went our long voyage back to get all our personal belongings. The wind was powerful, making our walk very unpleasurable. The massive buildings and their large columns were beautiful also.
Well bye for now I'll blog more about our trip later!
Your in our prayers, keep us in yours
Amanda
